  • Kiln Firing: Pay for the "Real Estate" You Occupy

    At our studio, we’ve moved to a Volume-Based Firing System. This is the most honest and transparent way to handle kiln space. In the past, weight was the standard, but weight doesn’t tell the whole story. What truly matters in a kiln is real estate.

    The "Box" Concept: You’re the Surveyor

    We want you to feel empowered in your process, which is why you measure your own work. Whether you’re at our packing station in the warehouse or prep-measuring at home, the system is simple:

    1. Visualize the Box: Imagine your piece sitting inside a snug, rectangular box that touches its widest, longest, and highest points.

    2. The Measurement: Measure the Length x Width x Height in centimeters.

      • Pro Tip: Include handles or decorative protrusions—they occupy real estate too!

    3. The Formula: Multiply (L x W x H) to get your total cubic centimeters ($cm^3$).

    The 4 cm Technical Minimum

    For flat items like tiles, coasters, or shallow plates, we apply a minimum height of 4 cm.

    • The Physics: Our kilns are stacked in layers using ceramic "posts" (the furniture) to support the shelves. Our smallest structural posts are 4 cm tall.

    • The Vertical Footprint: Because we cannot physically place another shelf any lower than 4 cm without risking your work, that 4 cm vertical "slice" is the minimum amount of real estate required to fire your piece safely.

    Our Firing Rates

    We’ve calibrated these rates to stay consistent with our high-value $10/kg and $13/kg standards:

    There is a $10.00 minimum charge per firing session to cover kiln maintenance and studio administration.

  • We offer a glazing service with many glazes to choose from. These are White, Wine Red, Weiser Honey, Floating Blue, Sea Foam Green, Clear, More glazes coming soon!

    Glazing prices follow the same volume formulation as the glaze firing service. Total Volume time 0,00305 cents. See kiln firing service and scroll to see how to calculate your objects volume.

    The wax service ensures the bisque fired pieces are waxed on the bottom so they can be dipped in our glazes. Prices are determined by measuring across the bottom of the piece and are as follows.

    Integrated Firing & Pricing

    To keep things simple and fair, we’ve moved to a Volume-Based Firing System. You only pay for the space your work actually occupies in the kiln.

    • Monthly Membership: $175 per month.

    • Firing Services: Calculated by the cubic inch/centimeter (see our [Kiln Firing Page] for our updated, highly competitive rates).

    • The $10 Minimum: We maintain a small $10 minimum charge per firing to ensure we can keep the kilns maintained and the community thriving.

    We don’t believe in "basic" equipment. When you drop in, you have access to the finest machinery on the market today:

    • The Wheels: Choose between the near-silent precision of Shimpo Whisper wheels or the legendary power of Australian-made Venco (including their high-performance Drive and Flex models).

    • The Tools: From professional-grade banding wheels to our heavy-duty slab rollers, we provide the top-tier equipment you need to execute professional-level work.

    • The Space: An immaculate, bright studio designed for creative flow. With plenty of dedicated hand-building tables and spacious workstations, you’ll always have room to move.

    We’ve built a sanctuary where you can truly "turn off" the outside world.

    Pricing & Add-ons:

    • Pay-As-You-Go: $12 per hour (minimum one hour).

    • Full Access: Your hourly rate includes use of all wheels, slab rollers, hand-building tables, and studio amenities.

    • Shelf Rental: Need a home for your pieces between visits? Rent a dedicated shelf for just $15 a month.

    • Community Firing: All work is fired using our fair and transparent volume-based system.
